Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP)

The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) is an initiative of the Government of Uganda that is aimed at improving access to financial services for women and equipping them with skills for enterprise growth, value addition and marketing of their products and services.

Small Textile Business

Jessica, 30, and Elizabeth Nakumba, 20, have a fledgling textiles business in Masindi. The programme has helped them grow the business to a place where they can comfortably look after their families, their children's health, education, still be able to save some money.

Become a Member

We are open to partnerships with people with skills, knowledge and experience to help train, educate and equip women in rural areas in the different sectors so that they will be able to run successful businesses for the sake of their families and communities.

Workshops and Training

We organize and set up workshops to train women in different sectors like finance, good farming practices in agriculture, small business management, marketing, sewing, basic skills, nutrition, health and many others. We open up their minds that hey may be knowledgeable. Before each beneficiary group is allowed to utilize their funds, they are taken through training in basic fi nancial management skills, group dynamics, recordkeeping, procurement and the revolving fund mechanism.

The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) is an initiative of the Government of Uganda being implemented as a Rolling Programme under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD). The Programme which begins in the Financial Year 2015/16 is designed to address the challenges women face in undertaking economically viable enterprises including the limited access to affordable credit, limited technical knowledge and skills for business development, limited access to markets as well as information regarding business opportunities. Programme Cordinator's Message

Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) is one of the flagship Programmes of the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development. The Programme targets poor, unemployed and vulnerable women in all districts across the country. Hence as much as possible promotes the integration of the following categories of women as beneficiaries: The Programme as much as possible promotes the integration of the following categories of women as beneficiaries: unemployed women, Vulnerable Groups e.g. Single young mothers, Widows and gender based Violence (GBV) survivors, Women with Disabilities, Women living with HIV/AIDS, Women heading households, widows, women slum dwellers and women living in hard to reach areas and ethnic minorities.
